The final concept is a four legged planting robot, equipped with an extendable planting arm and a planting head. The legs reduces the pressure on the forest floor, and allows the machine to be smaller while still being able to move though tough terrain. The machine prepares the planting spot in a environmentally friendly way by using hot steam to kill competing vegetation. The seedling is planited with a protective barrier made of biodegradable plastic, that protects the seedling from bugs without the use of toxic insecticides. The robot is run by a steam engine, fuelled by forestry waste, such as pellets or wood chips. It also features a hydraulic system using water instead of oil.
